Response to Government’s Industrial Strategy

On response to the latest Industrial Strategy our Chairman, John Downes said: “We strongly welcome the Government’s Industrial Strategy, particularly its support for advanced manufacturing. This investment can unlock innovation, boost productivity, and reinforce the UK’s global leadership in science and manufacturing.

“Crucially, we’re pleased to see recognition that the benefits of this investment must extend beyond the traditional Golden Triangle. Across the UK, regions like ours in the North West already host dynamic ecosystems blending world-class research, thriving start-ups, and cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities.

“Sci-Tech Daresbury, in partnership with the Science and Technologies Facilities Council (STFC), is a prime example. Here, the Hartree Centre is embedding digital tools like AI and data analytics into advanced manufacturing processes – accelerating innovation and strengthening industrial performance. Today, more than 20 companies on our campus are delivering industrial digitisation, automation, and process control solutions across sectors such as automotive, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.

“Regional clusters like ours prove that when researchers, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers are supported nationwide, the entire sector grows stronger.

“This strategy is a chance to build a more resilient, competitive, and inclusive economy. We look forward to working with government, industry, and academia to ensure regions like the Liverpool City Region and wider North West have the investment, infrastructure, and recognition to lead this transformation.”
