John has been the Business Development Manager at Sci-Tech Daresbury since 2006 with responsibility for attracting and supporting companies on site and developing strategic partnerships. He started his career at Unilever in a variety of roles in the UK & USA, before working in Ineos. John is a Director and Company Secretary for the UK Science Park Association and is a member of the Cheshire & Warrington Enterprise Partnership Innovation Strategy Board and Liverpool City Region LEP Investment Board.
Paul is responsible for engaging with the management teams of high technology companies to establish them at Sci-Tech Daresbury and work with them to accelerate the growth of their businesses, and he has supported the successful scale up of the site since 2003. Prior to this, Paul spent some 10 years in founding and growing a number of technology companies after his first spin out from Manchester University. He holds a PhD in sensor technology.
Ben joined Sci-Tech Daresbury in September 2022 as our Partnership Support and Marketing Manager, having started his career in residential sales and lettings, Ben has been in the property sector for over 8 years across numerous areas of the industry including property management, investment, and recruitment, as well as holding over 3 years marketing experience within the property sector.
Ben has a creative mind and has always had a strong interest for property. He is strategically working with the wider team across Sci-Tech Daresbury and Langtree to implement his skills and knowledge.
Edward joined Sci-Tech Daresbury in March 2023 as our Business Support Executive, having graduated the University of Leeds with a Degree in Biology.
Lynne joined Langtree in 2018 as the Assistant Building Manager at the Innovation Centre. Prior to joining Langtree Lynne spent her days sailing around the Mediterranean for several years and before this she worked for a housing association in which her role was to sell shared ownership to first time buyers. Her experience also includes selling new properties off plan and promoting and selling retirement homes. Lynne has spent the majority of her career being involved in property.
Jake joined Sci-Tech Daresbury as our Building Manager early in 2022, his role encompasses responsibility for the Violet estate and day-to-day management support of Techspace 1 and 2. He brings over 7 years of management experience and is IOSH Managing Safely qualified, showing his commitment to embedding health and safety across site operations. Before joining Langtree, Jake graduated with a BA (Hons) in Drama from Liverpool John Moore’s University and went on to manage several flagship sites across the Liverpool City Region for Costa Coffee, Travelodge Hotels, and Savills Property Management.
Pamela joined Langtree in 2020 and prior to this she spent 30 years as a Client Manager at Lloyds Bank Commercial Finance. Pamela studied history at the College of Ripon and York St John and awarded an Honours degree by Leeds University.
Trish a Receptionist at The Innovation Centre, she started with the company in March this year and brings over 30 years’ experience as a Receptionist. Her previous role was working for an independent Business Centre. Her early years’ experience was gained working for BICC and ABB Power.
Karen a receptionist at Vanguard House. Her background is within the customer service and reception sector. Prior to joining Langtree Karen worked for the Business Centre sector and for the NHS.
Francesca is Receptionist at Techspace One at Sci-Tech Daresbury. She has over 30 years Executive PA experience, including the previous 20 years working as PA to the CEO of Airwave Solutions, which provides mission-critical communication services to Police, Fire and Ambulance throughout the UK.
Mark joined Langtree in 2021 and is the Maintenance Technician at Sci-Tech Daresbury, his duties include, but are not limited to promoting Health and Safety. Mark is the main point of contact for reporting building faults and general grounds maintenance. Prior to joining Langtree Mark has over 15 years’ experience Construction and Maintenance. Mark worked on new build housing and apartment plot and also spent some time working for a hotel chain doing the maintenance technician role. Since joining Langtree Mark has completed his IOSH, which demonstrates the importance of safety and health in a business environment.
John is a Chartered Surveyor with over 30 years’ property experience. He has worked in both the public and private sectors and has considerable experience in urban regeneration, public/private partnerships and managing complex multi-disciplinary developments. He is currently a Board member of Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership and has recently joined the board of the Warrington Youth Zone.
Malcolm is Langtree’s Chief Operating Officer. His background includes seven years at Wainhomes where his roles included Group Company Secretary and Divisional Finance Director. Prior to this Malcolm worked for KPMG in the North West and Australia. He is a Chartered Accountant and an Associate Member of Corporate Treasurers. Malcolm has over 20 years’ experience at Langtree and has been involved in establishing and subsequent management of the Group’s existing JV projects. He is a Board Member of St Helens Chamber and Chairman of their audit, resource and risk committee.
Tom is a Chartered Accountant, with over 10 years’ experience at Langtree. After graduating with a first-class degree from the University of Manchester, he joined the graduate programme at Baker Tilly gaining his ACA qualification in 2008. His background also includes roles in group accounting and treasury at MWH Global Inc.
Jayne has been employed by Langtree for over 13 years, and as Group Property Director she has overall responsibility for letting, marketing and asset management of the investment properties. Jayne has been a key part of letting and selling of the properties and bringing the portfolio up to a mature occupancy and ensured the management and retention of occupiers is maintained. Also, during this time, Jayne has had involvement with the preparation and implementation of joint ventures within the business and assessment of new sites.
Josh joined Langtree in 2020 as a Development Manager. He graduated with a degree in Law from Liverpool John Moores University in 2015 before graduating with a Masters degree in Real Estate from the University of Reading in 2016. He then worked for JLL in their Manchester office for 4 years where he advised a variety of clients on matters such as commercial investment, lettings, sales and development of Industrial and Logistics property and the sale of Residential Land. Josh is part of the Development team and assists in the management and delivery of the development sites across the business.
Paul Vernon is the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Executive Director, Business and Innovation Directorate and Head of Daresbury Laboratory. Originally a biochemist, Paul’s career has encompassed commercial finance, scientific and medical sales and marketing and international distribution. He has extensive experience in technology start-ups, having been the CEO of two medical diagnostics companies, and in technology transfer and business incubation.
From 2002 until 2014, Paul worked for STFC where he was responsible for spinning out five technology businesses, established STFC’s business development activity and latterly headed up campus development for the National Science and Innovation Campuses. He also managed UK technology transfer for the European Space Agency and established the world’s first CERN Business Incubation Centre.
From 2014 to 2020, Paul was the founding CEO of Thornton Science Park in Cheshire and Senior Executive Director of Commercial Operations at the University of Chester.
Massimo Noro is the Director of Business Development, with a focus on the Daresbury Campus. His role is to ensure the continued growth and success of our Daresbury Laboratory at the Sci-Tech Daresbury Campus. He shares joint responsibility for business development across STFC with the Director of Business Development, Space, Technology and Facilities.
Massimo is leading on strategic partnerships with industry and growing a portfolio of strategic stakeholder relationships, especially with local government in the North West and with large international corporates. He manages a wide team to deliver innovation, to develop strong pipelines of commercial engagements and to provide a range of offerings for business incubation.
Massimo joined STFC in February 2018, following a successful industrial R&D career at Unilever with a proven track record as program and people leader in a corporate environment – Unilever is a large multinational and a market leader in home care, personal care, refreshments and foods products. He gained considerable experience in managing high-budget projects and in leading large teams across sites and across complex organisations.
His scientific interests and expertise are in the area of mesoscale modelling of soft matter and self-assembling systems. After his undergraduate education at University of Padova (Italy) in Chemistry (Laurea, Magna-cum-Laude) he completed a PhD in Physical Chemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles (USA) and then pursued post-doctoral work at FOM-AMOLF in Amsterdam (NL), sponsored through a Marie Curie EU Fellowship.
Massimo is a fellow of the Institute of Physics, well published and well cited in the soft matter/complex systems literature. His legacy in soft matter has led to the development of the “Noro-Frenkel Law of Corresponding States”.
Katharine’s academic background is in Physics, and she completed a PhD in particle physics at the University of Liverpool in 2007. Since graduating, Katharine has worked for the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) in roles in Programme Management, Impact Evaluation, Business Development in the area of particle accelerator science and technology, and now Campus Development. She is based at STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory, and her role is to work with partners on and off campus to help steer the strategy for the campus as it grows, and to maximise its benefit to the region and the wider UK.
Amy Farrington joined STFC in 2021 as Head of Business Incubation at Daresbury Laboratory where she is responsible for the strategic development and operation of the Laboratory’s portfolio of business incubation serviced laboratories, facilities and support programmes, including the hugely successful ESA BIC UK.
Amy has an interest in and passion for the early-stage science and technology-based businesses and has first-hand experience of their needs having been a co-founder at an early stage business that was based at Daresbury. She had operational responsibility for the company and here role was predominantly to develop commercial partnerships and manage their investor relationships.
Amy has spent her career within or supporting early stage businesses and has worked in the private and academic sectors, including two of the region’s Universities.
Joy supports customer pipeline development for STFC’S business incubation facilities to help businesses develop and grow. Working closely with the business engagement manager, she helps manage campus tenants and projects. She also promotes STFC business incubation projects and the impact Sci-Tech Daresbury support has on businesses and the wider society.
Dr Angela Walsh obtained her PhD in Electrochemistry/Corrosion Engineering from the University of Newcastle. She worked in research for a few years before transitioning to banking. Angela came back into science in 2014 when she started work at STFC. For many years, Angela worked in the Hartree Centre but is now responsible for business development in the North West of England.
Following the completion of a degree in International Business with languages at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2006, Amy started out in business development before pursuing a career in marketing. She worked in financial services and investment management for 6 years before moving into professional services marketing. Today she is responsible for promoting the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) support for businesses across the UK.
Emmanuel Dupuis joined STFC in 2022 as Business Engagement Manager at Daresbury Laboratory.
His role is the development of business engagement with our serviced laboratories, facilities and support programmes
Emmanuel has an interest for science and technology Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), to help them exploit the best of the technology offered by Daresbury.
He is focusing mainly on the CTH, offering access to 3D printing, Engineering and Digital capabilities.
He has a large experience in Business Development in various industries and access to supporting networks
Stephen has over 28 years of Local Government experience having worked for councils across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and now Cheshire and Merseyside. Having previously held senior roles in 3 large council settings, Stephen was appointed the CEO of Halton in 2022. Throughout Stephen’s career, he has led large scale regeneration and public service reform schemes, most recently in Lancashire during which Stephen was responsible for over 9 billion pounds worth of schemes including Eden of the North and the development of the UKs first National Cyber Centre.
Stephen is also a regular contributor to the public sector trade press and speaker at national and internal conferences on the key issues of the day, as well as an advisor to HMG on the future of the flight industry in the UK.
Outside of work, Stephen sits on two regional boards, is married with two children and is a keen long-distance runner and supporter of his beloved Burnley FC.
With over 20 years local government experience, Helen has worked in a variety of roles at Halton including project delivery, external funding, regional policy and regeneration. Helen has worked on the development and monitoring of some of Halton’s major capital programmes including town centre regeneration and housing delivery. Since 2010 Helen has supported the Joint Venture Board at Sci-Tech Daresbury in delivering new buildings, managing funding and developing the Talent and Skills Strategy.
Cllr Stef Nelson is the Executive Board Member for Environment and Urban Renewal and represents Halton Borough Council on the Public Sector Joint Venture at Sci-Tech Daresbury. Stef has served as a councillor in Halton for 26 years, representing Bridgewater ward in Runcorn as well as appointments to the Liverpool City Region Environment and Waste Board, Cheshire Fire Authority and the Local Government Association Public Transport Consortium.
